Overview
The Borden Mine is a ramp access underground mine located approximately 20 km east of the town of Chapleau. The deposit is an upper amphibolite metamorphosed orogenic gold deposit. It is located within the lower limb of an antiform in the Borden Lake Greenstone Belt.
Gold at Borden is primarily free gold associated with pyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization hosted in grey glassy quartz veins. Visible gold typically is only observed as a few isolated specks with the occasional gold grains of 1-2mm encountered.
Production at Borden commenced in 2019 and, to date, approximately 600,000 ounces have been produced. Mining is carried out at Borden using the longhole stoping method with unconsolidated as well as cemented rock fill. Material is trucked from underground to surface and from the mine site approximately 190 km to the Dome Mill.
Production in 2024 at Borden totaled 130,000 ounces based on a total of 666k tonnes milled and an average processing grade of 6.54 g/t. The average mining rate was 1,825 tpd, with opportunities existing to increase the mining rate from current levels.
Based on existing Mineral Resources, the current mine life at Borden is 8 years, with there being potential to both grow production and extend mine life.
Exploration
Significant exploration potential exists at Borden, both on a near-mine and regional basis. Near the mine, the current producing zones remain open at depth and along strike to the east and west, where a large number of prospects have had little or no previous drilling. On a more regional basis, Borden is believed to have camp potential, with only limited regional exploration work having been completed on the large, 1,000 km2 land position.
Resources
Current Mineral Resources include Measured and Indicated Mineral Resources of 3,745,000 tonnes at an average grade of 6.16 g/t for 741,000 ounces and Inferred Mineral Resources of 1,372,000 tonnes at 5.22 g/t for 230,000 ounces.
